Electroplating is one of the most advanced techniques to embellish plastic parts, with a wide range of industrial applications. Most common electroplating techniques use hexavalent chromium (Cr [VI]) but it does have a negative effect on human health.
In recent years, automotive OEMs have made efforts to replace hexavalent chromium finishes with more eco-friendly finishes. As a result we have invested in a FULLY Cr [VI] free plating process also known as Cr [III] or tri-valent.
Trivalent chromium is another method of decorative chrome plating, and it is the environmentally friendly alternative to hexavalent chromium, with many of the same characteristics. Trivalent chromium plating uses chromium sulfate or chromium chloride as its main ingredient, instead of chromium trioxide; making trivalent chromium less toxic than hexavalent chromium.
There are very few platers in the world with this Cr [VI] free technology, as you would expect APT will be one of these few.
